Instagram account health checker
The numbers you can actually measure from your own export: follower ratio, follow-back rate, pending requests and, with an older export, how many followers you gained and lost. The names behind those numbers are part of Pro.

Exactly how each number is calculated
- Follower ratio = followers ÷ following. Above 1 means more people follow you than you follow.
- Follow-back rate = mutuals ÷ following: the share of accounts you follow that follow you too.
- Retention (two exports) = followers in the older export who are still in the newer one ÷ followers in the older export.
- Heuristic score = 50 × follow-back rate + 30 × min(ratio, 2) ÷ 2 + 20 × (1 − pending ÷ following), rounded to 0–100.
The score rewards a list of follows that is mostly reciprocal and not cluttered with unanswered requests. It is a tidy-up indicator for your own account, nothing more: a news site that follows no one and a friend group where everyone follows everyone can both be perfectly healthy. Instagram has no public health score, and nothing here measures reach or the algorithm.
What this tool cannot measure
Engagement, reach, fake or inactive followers. None of these are in a follower export. For engagement, use the engagement rate calculator; for why ghost followers can't be detected reliably, read the ghost followers guide.
Account health questions
Is the health score an official Instagram metric?
No. Instagram publishes no account health score for followers. This is a transparent heuristic built from three numbers in your export, with the formula shown on this page. It says nothing about reach, the algorithm or whether Instagram favours your account.
Why doesn't it show my engagement rate?
Your follower export has no likes, comments or reach in it, and inventing engagement from follower counts would be guesswork. Use the engagement rate calculator with the numbers from your posts or Insights instead.
How do I see followers gained and lost?
Add an older export in the second box. The tool compares the two followers lists: anyone in the old one missing from the new one is a lost follower, anyone new is a gained follower. The tool shows both totals and the first names; the full lists are part of Pro. Without an older export no tool can know who left.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both files are read in your browser and nothing is stored. If you want history kept for you, the FindUnfollower app stores each upload so you can compare any two.
